Duties and Responsibilities

Inspection Preparation Works

  • Plan the inspection jobs for the assigned project as per approved Inspection Test plans (ITP):
    – Preparing the timesheet, site record forms, check equipment fit-for-use and resources
    – Performing factory audits as per client requirement
  • Perform reviewing activities to ensure meeting the project requirements:
    – Welding procedures, procedure qualification records, welder qualification, material and weld testing procedures

Inspection Works on Site

  • Carry out the assigned inspection jobs as per client requirements:
    – Witness welding procedure tests, welder qualification tests as per international standards
    – Arrange required tests for welding procedures as per relevant codes/standards
    – Conducting pre-welding and post-welding inspection activities (e.g., material inspection, fit up, visual inspection, etc)
    – Conducting structural erection integrity inspections
  • Resolve any inspection issues:
    – Issuing the reports with comments to client
    – Issuing NCR for fabrication rejects
    – Ensuring corrective and preventive actions are taken by client

Completion of Inspection Reports

  • Prepare inspection reports for submission to client:
    – Tests indication on drawings
    – Frequency of the NDT tests
    – Inspection results
    – Relevant attachments (e.g., photos, site drawings, etc)
  • Submit inspection reports/certification for review and billing process:
    – Timesheet must be complete with details (e.g., project details, etc)

Supporting Duties

  • Prepare for new tests / certification as per organisation requirement
  • Prepare /Update the calibration records and internal procedures for audits
  • Recommend relevant testing services to clients
  • Coach and guide staff on the job

Requirements

Technical Competencies

  • Experienced in steelwork inspection, factory audits, review and write technical procedures
  • Good knowledge and concept of welding related defects and interpretation
  • Knowledge about various material grades, properties and technical specifications related to job
  • Knowledge /certification of non-destructive test methods such as ultrasonic testing/magnetic particle testing
  • Apply 5S and safety practices
  • Senior welding inspector international certification/API 510/RTFI/painting inspection certification

Task-Related Competencies

  • Know the organisational policies and procedures and develop related inspection procedures
  • Sound knowledge of Steel Materials, Welding Inspection
  • Plan, prioritise and allocate the necessary resources for project inspection
  • Know testing frequency and acceptance criteria’s
  • Knowledge and skills of root cause analysis tools
  • Process of documenting and issue reports for the Inspections or tests performed
  • Computer skills to create formats and know Measuring parameters calculations
  • Conduct technical skills training to staff

Interpersonal Competencies

  • Lead/work as a team and communicate with people in a positive manner
  • Demonstrate good communication and listening skills
  • Be able to liaise with internal and external parties
  • Build a good relationship with the customer
  • Good personality, behaviour and positive working attitude
